April 18, 2025 — Monterey, Tennessee ace Ricky Weiss, who is originally from Headingley, Manitoba, became the fifth different Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series presented by Coltman Farms Racing and fueled by Sunoco winner in as many races on Friday night at I-75 Raceway! Ricky toured the Sweetwater, Tennessee oval third fastest in Group B during FK Rod Ends qualifying and later picked up a victory in his heat race. After starting the 53-lap headliner from the outside of the front row, Ricky powered to the race lead at the drop of the green flag and officially led every circuit during the contest to bag the $10,053 first place prize money.
It wasn’t easy; however, as Ricky turned back repeated challenges for the point by Cory Hedgecock, who temporarily grabbed the race lead with a turn-one slider on lap 42. Ultimately, Cory finished 1.289 seconds behind Weiss in the runner-up spot. National Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer Dale McDowell ran in the top three for much of the race and swapped the second position with Hedgecock on five different occasions before rounding out the podium in third. Garrett Smith started and finished fourth, while Jadon Frame picked off four competitors to claim the final spot inside of the top five at the waving of the checkers.
“We’ve just been working on these things real hard,” Weiss said in Schaeffer’s Oil victory lane while talking about his self-designed Sniper Chassis. “I heard Cory (Hedgecock). I could see shadows. I saw him slide across my nose and I felt him one time. I was just trying to be smart out there like Jared Delk in that 604 crate race. How about those Sniper cars making a statement and I’m just proud to ride along with it!”
Weiss captured his second career Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series triumph aboard a #7 Sniper Chassis powered by a Vic Hill Racing Engine with sponsorship in part from Drydene Performance Lubricants, Derrick’s Sandblasting, G-Style Transport, Collins Brothers Towing, Keewatin Truck Service, Turk Enterprises, Borderland Hay and Straw, Performance Grading, LG Transport, RDW Recycling, Bucky’s Transport, Wiesner Mining, JCJ Tools, Aldon Auto, Go Lithium Batteries, and Penske Racing Shocks.
A strong field of 40 Super Late Model competitors piled into the I-75 Raceway pit area on Friday for round five of the Spring Nationals miniseries. Cory Hedgecock laid down the quickest time in both MRP Fantasy League Hot Laps and FK Rod Ends qualifying. Hedgecock, Dale McDowell, Ricky Weiss, and Garrett Smith won the four heat races, while Mike Marlar and Wil Herrington topped the pair of B-Mains.
The 53-lap feature was slowed by five caution flags including a pair of yellows for one of the race favorites – Brandon Overton. The Evans, Georgia standout left the racing surface in turn four on lap 10 and climbed all the way back up to the third spot before slowing with a flat right rear tire on lap 37. In the waning laps, Brandon made another rally through the field to ultimately finish sixth in the final rundown. The main event lasted 33 minutes with 14 starters completing the entire distance.
